Credit courses

Helsingfors arbis offers courses for which you can register for credits. We call these courses credit courses. Credits are a simple way to officially demonstrate your knowledge to, for example, an employer or an educational institution. Credits can also be a good addition to your CV or job applications.

You can find the credits you have earned in the service My Studyinfo, maintained by the Finnish National Agency for Education.

I want credits. What should I do? / Who should I inform?

If the course you intend to take is registered as a credit course, you can earn credits for it.

You can either inform that you want to register for credits when signing up on Ilmonet, or inform the teacher at the beginning of the course. If you inform the teacher at the beginning of the course, you will need to go to the office with an identification document and fill out a consent form for the credits to be registered.

Where can I see my credits?

Your credits are registered on the My Studyinfo page, maintained by the Finnish National Agency for Education. There you can see all your study achievements since 1995. You can log in to My Studyinfo with your online banking codes, mobile certificate, or an electronic ID card.

What do I do with my credits after the course? / Where can I use them?

Credits are a more official way to demonstrate your knowledge. Once your credits are registered in My Studyinfo, you can share a direct link to the page so that you can show them to an employer or an educational institution. You can also mention the credits on your CV or in job applications.

Please note that educational institutions do not automatically count credits towards your qualifications; you need to agree on this separately.

I want to participate in a credit course but do not want any credits. Is that possible?

It is always voluntary to register for credits for a course. You can therefore take a credit course without registering for any credits.

What achievements are required to earn credits? / What criteria are there for credits? How should one work during the course?

Each course has its own description of what is required to earn credits for the course. You can see the full course description on the course’s ilmonet page. The criteria vary from course to course. Usually, a certain level of attendance is required during the course, and you may need to complete assignments during the course. It may also involve passing a final exam, writing a learning diary, completing a project during the course, or simply having the teacher continuously assess how well you meet the course’s learning objectives. Always check the course description and learning objectives at the beginning of the course to know what is expected of you.
